Dyson dc04?

Can anyone advise please

I was giving the stairs a good going over when suddenly
my dyson dc04 went off, i checked the fuse and socket but they seem ok. we've had the hover about 2 years without any
problems at all untill today.
does anyone know what could be the cause i.e the switch
or motor etc. I do have a digi multimetre so any advice would be appreciated in getting this working again.

My DC04 recently started cutting out after running for about 10 minutes. Allowed to cool down it would reset and operate for a further period before cutting out again. Checked the foam filter ( under the flap at the top of the cyclone and released by a grey catch at the front ) and it was completely blocked. Washed out filter as per manufacturers instructions and everything is now OK. This filter needs cleaning every 6 months, in dusty environments more often. It is simple to clean, remove foam and squeeze out under cold tap repeatedly until water runs clean allow 12 hours to dry before replacing in cleaner. The othe filter under the dust bin on top of the motor should not get so dirty but shake it out occasionally as well. The plastic retaining cover can be levered up at the tab on the side using a blunt knife. Check the other two removable ducts one at the side and one underneath as well for blockages.

I hope this solves your problem.

Hi what size fuse should be in this model? Its currently a 13A fuse?

The filters are clean and it still switches off,

The machine could be getting too hot and switching itself off due to the thermal switch which is a safety factor on the machine to protect the motor.
Switching the machine back on at a later time when it has cooled down will tell you if that is the fault or not. If the machine comes back on suspect dirty filteration or a possible blockage somewhere in the machine which is causing the motor to overheat.
Considering that you have a multimeter, with the machine unplugged eg (isolated from the mains) you could do continuity checks on the plug fuse first, switch and mains cable. If these are all ok, I would probably suspect the motor; but I would have thought it unlikely as you state that the machine is only two years old, but it can happen.

Hello. I experienced the same problem this weekend. After 15 minutes the Dyson runs again but for only about 5 minutes. The lower filter is not removable as has adhered itself the filter holder. Is this the reason the motor is overheating and cutting out?

Most modern motors are fitted with some kind of thermal switch/fuse to prevent overheating. I would suggest this is your problem if it works for a while and then goes off. There is an underlying problem, either a blockage or perhaps the filters require cleaning? Possibly the motor is at the end of its life. Is the brushbar turning ok? Think simple, before you go taking bits off. Remember, there is a filter above the motor, beneath the cassette.

If its cut out, from overheating, u will have a blockage somewhere....wash the filter and unblock and it should be ok

It is most likely the switch, I have just had the same problem and I have come here to look for the answer of how to get the switch apart. A thin kitchen knife down the side of the yellow button where the little square hole is next to the handle looking from the top, and pull it up difficult but worth it.

The hover came back on after 15 minutes, seems it must have been a heat issue. is this a ongoing problem does anyone know.

thanx
