i have a light on at the pull cord but no water or no lights on at the shower unit.

check for live at the shower in coming cable 9/10 when this happens it's just a loose cable connection. in the pull cord or shower connections.

Turn off at the pullcord & get an electrician. apart from anything else, all electrical work in a bathroom must be done by a part "p" qualified person. I`m not ignoring the skills you may or may not have, but as the saying goes,"if you need to ask, you can`t do"
