Try cleaning the slimy gunge from the rubber filter between the bottle and the pump, this can usually be the problem. I've done this three or four times over the years.

Many thanks Paul and Martin. Mines a 2001 and not the same as Ken's. Two separate pipes from pump. So far at least as awkward as Ken's adjective.
Jim,
if its not been working since Aug 2009 despite hot (near boiling) water into bottle from kettle would you still expect to unblock it use your hosepipe method? The top has come off and left behind somewhere and I think the bottle must have dried out following 4 weeks sat in the sun not moving.
Martin,
I hear the pump running for both front and back and there is a little water from somewhere just after the pump (I have already taken off the wheel and black arch (2 hours), but still can't get at the (nearly swore) pipes with enough strength to wrench them off! Its not clear (from just feel which is all that's available) which of the two apparent joins in each pipe (about 1 inch apart), adjacent to the pump, is the one to TRY to pull apart for each pipe (not that one can get two hands up there to achieve the breaking of either pipe at either join).
I took off the big lump of black plastic at the bottom of the bonnet when its open, and did wrench off the supply pipe thus exposed just before the T piece off to the first spray and on to the other, and no water gets that far.
I will now try taking the pump out of the bottle in daylight, which should help provide access to the pipes after pulling them and the released pump down for closer inspection. (Perhaps after also undoing the electric lead, wherever that is).

why bother. if it's not working it is probably just gundged up. Stick a hose pipe in the top and let it run for a minute or two

You don't really need to take out the wheel arch liner, as you can reach the bottle, from below, by just removing the plastic cover under the radiator, which is held on with 6 screws. As mentioned before, the pump simply pulls out of the bottle. Whilst you are at it, you can also remove the rubber grommet that it pushes into and clean the combined filter. The pipes just pull off & then you can disconnect the electrics. The plug is held by a little catch & you have to push a trigger at the top to release it. You can't really mix up the pipes as they are colour coded black & white. This applies to Mk 3 Mondeo - I don't know about earlier models.

jack up car. remove drivers side front wheel. undo front part of wheel arch liner. remove radiator bottom cover, you can reach the pump from below. take off terminal and pipes. the pump can be pulled from the bottle. catch water in a container. you may need a new motor. £47+ vat from ford. got mine for £15 from ebay (the ford-shop). check operation if water squirts on the wrong window simply reverse the pipes.

bl**dy awkward ,there is a T piece sending the water to the rear windscreen below the bottle mine came off making the wash a trickle and emptying the bottle on the road. I removed the wheel and the guard round the inner wing -a few self tappers- and you can get at it but still not easy
