The Earliest models back in 1993 had Cable operated clutches, with all later 1994 onwards models being hydraulic, this is according to Haynes Manual.
They have normally got cable adjusters but these are automatic, so any slippage will be more than likeley to be a worn out clutch pressure plate, Ie you will need a new clutch. This is very expensive on a Mondy, and I'd say it would be cheaper to let the car go and get another one with a good clutch, they are dirt cheap now, I just picked up a 2.0 Ghia X P reg for 200 Quid on Ebay!.
