The fabric won't feed properly through the machine. What can I do?

The fabric will not feed on my sewing machine when I try to sew. It makes the bobbin thread tangle up underneath.

The machine is a Sears Kenmore Convertible 1980 sewing machine.

Hello Judy,
If the fabric will not feed through at all it could be as simple as not enough pressure on the foot, if the fabric will not feed through because the thread gets tangled straight away it sounds like a tension problem but go through these things first,
Make sure you have the needle in the correct way round, make sure that when you thread the machine you have the presser foot up so the thread goes inbetween the tension discs, make sure you have the machine threaded corectly, your tension should be about 5 or 6, give it a try, any problems let me know.
