The best way is to Uninstall the application. If that's not an option (for a document you created, for example), then a simple way to do it is to boot into Safe Mode, (assuming a windows PC). When you're powering up, before the windows screens come up, start pressing the F8 key about once a second, you'll get a menu. Choose Safe Mode. Don't worry, you're not likely to mess anything else up. When it boots, try deleting your icon. Reboot as you normally would. Some icons won’t let you remove them, like some epson printer software, it needs to be removed via the control panel. Good Luck!
