with the benefit of heinsight, not so easy. i forgot to mention that it was an opel vectra not a vauxhall. there are 2 star bolts at the back of the steering wheel which need to be removed before airbag can be removed. also the steering wheel is a press fit so wd40 and patience are required, plus the thing is spring loaded so when it comes loose watch out. as for removing the egnition, a dot punch and a good hammer and lots of patience. hope some body finds this helpfull.

hi there i am a mechanic and the anwser to your question is easy disconnect your vehicle battery for ten minutes then remove the cover with the vauxhall badge on your steering wheel you will then come across two wires disconnect them and then undo the nut in the middle of the steering wheel also make sure your battery is disconnected at all times when putting back together connect your battery back up and leave the vehicle for another ten minutes then start your car this will prevent your airbag going off
