Mower stalls after priming?

This is a followup question to Tom. Have a Sears 4 HP mower with new gas, plug and cleaned carb. After priming it stalls. Tom suggested that the flywheel key may be sheared or pinched or the timing is off. Can I repair this and if so how,or should I leave this to a pro? Thanks Paul

Hey Paul, if it was your flywheel it would not start backfire if any thing. It sound like a carb problem. Take off the air filter and have some one pull it while you put your thumb in the intake. Once it starts you can put your thump half way across the intake to keep it running. If it does start get a new air filter. Part two. If it doesstart but dies in a minute check that the vent hole in the gas cap is clear. Most can't pull from a vaccum. Good true.
