How can I get my CD slot to work; it's ok for DVD's?

I bought a COMPAQ PRESARIO 900 and it's in Spanish,i.e.configured in Spanish, and I want to change it to English. Also how do I fix my CD's slot to work? It accepts DVD's but not CD's.

Start, Control panel, Region settings.

The DVD/CD combo has a bad or dirty CD laser. If a CD Lens Cleaner doesn't fix it you need a new drive.
