Can I mend the electric cable of my Qualcast?

I've cut the electric cable while mowing. Is it possible to repair it? Could an electrician do it for me?

Just cut the two ends off and remake, leaving about half inch of stripped cable.
Purchase an in-line connector and join together making sure the male connector is fixed to mower.
The power supply cable MUST MUST MUST be the female connector
