I have an older electric Whirlpool built in oven. The oven door was not closing tight on one side. I played with the door to see if I could get it to close tight with no gap omn the one side... I ended up pulling out the entire door. It has two "latches" or "prongs" attached to the door. How do I reinstall the door, it does not seem to just go dorectly back in?

Thanks. Mine didn't have a hole but I used a two inch 1/4 diameter inch screw and propped it in to keep the latch open and it went right on. One place wanted to charge me $30 for an on-line answer. The question is, why would Whirlpool design such a counter-intuitive way to do this - oven doors used to slide right off.

Here's what to do:

Take the door all the way off and place it flat on the floor. Use pliers to pull out the hinges until you see a hole in them, which you must then put a nail or screw through in order to keep the hinges from going back. Then, just put the door right back on to the oven and take the screws/nails out.

Man-o-man you saved my day, after tearing my hair out, read the post. Only my RB1005 WY model did not have holes to insert pin. Used small clamps instead to hold the hinge in open position. Worked great, removed clamps after inserting hinge in oven unit. Thanks

I have taken oven doors off before and reinstalled but this Whirlpool was a pain!!! After 20 minutes of trying I read this question answer section tried it and it worked in two minutes!!!!!!!!!THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Use pliers and pull the hinge out, place screws where you see holes to keep the hinge in the "open position" and viola it went right in. Pulled the door down to release the tension, pulled the screws out and DONE!!!

I tried the idea (pull out hinges and install pins to keep them up) but when I inserted the hinges in the slots of the frame they did NOT lock into place.

Also - I had removed the door and took it apart to clean the interior glass. Is there something speacial I should have done when putting the door back together?

Kevin, Your answer worked! I have an ancient Whirpool double wall unit and the door got cocked while I was cooking for a house full of people. I finally fooled with it 2 days later and got nothing accomplished. I found your answer "Googling" it.

Omg...my insaine husband had this wonderful idea to move the oven by the oven door. I come in the kitchen to find that apparently there is a cricket back there and thats why the oven door was on the floor. After an hour of waiting, of course I the wife steps in. I noted the henges needed to be down, but couldn't figure out how they're suppose to stay down... let alone trying to get them down can break a sweat. So then I tell him to go online; hoping we don't have to call someone. Then I read Kevin's answer. OKAY now This part the husband can do: VERY DANGEROUS! You have to wrench back the hinges Till you see a hole below the henge.Then (This is the dangerous part) put a screw or nail through it. Then manage to get the door back in without the nail/screw hurdling towards you at dangerous speeds. When that was finally accomplished and the door was back on, I couldn't help but want to bang my head into a wall when I heard him say, " Actually...I think it's behind the refridgerator." Now we have a pet cricket. Drink a beer it'll silence the noise.

The End...Unless he decides to pull the refridgerator door to pull it out!
