This could also be the ECU, my identical van had the same problem and it was water getting into the ECU and putting it ino "limp home" mode.

I had the same problem. the van would slow right down when the light came on. Realy bad if your in the fast lane on the M1.....the engine would tick over but if i pressed on the accelerator.... nothing. found out that there is a sensor on the foot pedel that was playing up so I had a new acceleration pedel fitted which solved the problem. cost £80
