Is your house/room too cold. My friend and her daughter both experienced GHD's with a fast bleeping noise and they did not appear to heat up. Their central heating had failed and the house was a lot colder than usual, by chance the straighteners were plugged in, at another point in the house (where they were using back up heating) to see what the problem was and they started to work okay. They have worked okay since then!!

s, March 2010
my ghd straightners keep over heating and fuse goes all the time wat could be wrong with these??????????????????

If you're feeling a little confident, try this web guide... And if that doesn't help they will repair or buy the broken one off you to put towards a new one!:

stacey, February 2010
On removing the screw to the 3 pin plug (top) I expected the plug to open into two halves revealing the blue & brown wires as normal. It didn't, rather it released a two pin moulded on plug. A faulty connection there was the cause of the fault and it was repaired in minutes by cutting off the moulded 2 pin plug, stripping back to the blue/brown wires and replacing with a true 3 pin plug (top). I am a Yorkshireman after all, a Scot with the generosity removed.

my ghds broke on christmas day 09 (ahhhh!!) after buying them in november..
they are cheap and cr*p in my opinion, if they cant manage 2 months use (5 times a week for 10minutes a day) then they are clearly not a great product. luckily as mine were in the warranty i sent them to ghd and they sent me a new pair free of charge (after a 3 week wait with christmas holidays, snow etc!) but what about all the poor people with ghds that break 13 months after the warranty???? its ridiculous!! for £100+ you should expect a better product/service from ghd. they didnt even offer to send me a pre paid jiffy bag, I HAD TO ASK. how stupid?!?!?

Anyway, people r saying on here that you have to post them back etc and pay for postage to have the product sent back and replaced... RING GHD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ASK FOR A PRE PAID BAG!!they will send it and it will be with u next day, should save you £6/£7 postage (they send a royal mail pre paid special next day delivery bag)
why should the customer have to pay to have a sh*t product replaced/fixed. Make ghd pay for return postage as its their problem they r selling such a cr*p product and inconveniencing everyone!!!!!!!!!!

I will never ever shop at ghd again, after these replacement ghds break and i cant get a replacement as the warranty runs out i will by from a better company, ghd have lost out on my custom, and i have warned friends and family about buying them, if u do this then u can cut down on the amount of profit they get, and then maybe they will sort out their rubbish product and make it more reliable..
sorry about the rant, but when u pay £100 for a product, you should expect it to work for AT LEAST 2 YEARS in my opinion.

helen, January 2010
simone if your siblings are sparkys then tell them to take a resistance reading across each ceramic plate, once disconnected from the circuit board, each plate will read 160 ohm. if one of the plates gives no reading (as i believe it will be) then you have broke the plate. see my post below. ps i'm not a business and dont offer any service (other than advice)

dave, November 2009
if you dropped your GHDs and the light goes out and doesn't work then you have cracked thr heating element behind the ceramic plate, very easy to fix and only £8 for the pair.
to all the other problems of an intimmitent red light, its one of the wires come off one of the plates (if one plate is faulty neither plate heats up) and the wire will make contact as you are using or wiggling it.
dont get robbed with this 'we cant fix it, here's 25% off' crap. every GHD can be fixed for under £10...if you know what you're doing.
if you need any help write me davelaye at yahoo dot com

david, November 2009
i used a service from www.ghdhairrepair.co.uk they were really fast and still working now!

cheap too! any repair for 25 quid + 6 month warranty

I Have a problem that my dad and brother tried to fix because they're electritions but no luck! I broght it to a friends house to get ready for a disco and it fell off the bed and wouldnt heat up, the red light doesnt turn on anymore! HELP

Niamh, November 2009
I'm very wary about sending them back now. I phoned up and told them they were more than 2 years old, but they said to send them back and they would tell me how much it would cost to fix if it was not a manufaacturing fault. Cost me £4 postage. After they received them, they wrote and told me to contact them. When I phoned up they said they could not be repaired because they no longer had the spares but out of a gesture of 'goodwill' they would offer me a new pair with a 25% discount £90!!. I asked for my pair to be sent back but was told that it would cost £10. Has anyone else had this expereince? Is it a big con to get us to buy new ones when they could be repaired elsewhere?

Amanda, November 2009
hi tanya, chances are its a problem with the circuit or the wire. i have a problem with the wire in mine, will only heat up when placed in certain angles. easy problem to fix thou:)

my ghd's have been broken for quite a long time now and after reading the comments on here i decided to go with the option of replacing the cable. i asked my husband to take the old cable off, which he did, and then wondered to myself what would happen if he put it back on again..so i got him to put it back on again...and to my surprise they now work!!! i suggest you all try taking the cable off your straighteners and putting it back on again, and hopefully it'll work for you too!! this is the cheapest way of repairing straighteners i know of!!! good luck!!

About a year ago, the cable on mine split and started sparking, then my GHDs wouldn't heat up. I bought a new cable off Ebay (I think it was about £6) and there are instructions on the same page saying how to fit it. Now they work perfectly. Hope this helps

Hi everyone
ive only had my bright pink ghd's since April. I hardly use them maybe 2-3 times a week. I was using them last week and they had a burning like smell then when i turned them off they make a loud pop sound. Now they dont even turn back on.
Does anyone know where i can get the repaired or get a new set? I do not have my receipt to take them back to the shop either.
Kind regards,
Stacey

ghds r wank., July 2008
My daughters GHD's kept going on or off depending on the angle she held the wire! obviously a loose connection so I literally cut the plug off and replaced it with a bog standard 3 pin-50p. Works perfectly.

Ian B, July 2008
Fix them yourself like I did. Bought a cable new for £6.00 of ebay, replaced it for the old one which was very simple to do by removing the black rubber ring with a screw driver undoing the 2 screws, unplugging old cable and plugging in the new cable. Very easy to do and a lot cheaper than buying new ones or paying somebody else to do it when it can be fixed for £6.00.

Ripley77, May 2008
Oh my goodness I'm so shocked. Had my Ghd's just under 2 years - only use them a maximun of 4 times a week for 15 mins a time. the red light started flashing then would go on and off. I ended up burning myself as the light was off but they were still hot. Now they won't come on at all. I thought it would just be mine, but this proves it's a common fault. Considering how expensive this product is and how GHD claim to be the best they really should sort it out. Has anyone got a contact for trading standards / watch dog that we could all email?

I am sooo glad to have found a site where other people are having problems with their GHDs! I brought a pair and within a couple of months they had broke. Similar to others i used them perfectly fine one day then the next i turned them on they crackled and the lights went out, never to come on again. I emailed GHD and they replied to me telling me to send them in for repair, but didn't mention a fee, which is slightly worrying. I then brought a second pair, thinkin lightning couldnt strike twice. But yesterday night, they too broke in exactly the same way. i have now emailed GHD again, tryin to be as polite as possible and i am awaiting their reply! Good Hair Days they may give you, but i value my life and my bank account a whole lot more!!

Claire Vardy, April 2008
Where abouts to I find the serial number of my GHD's so I can checky if they are from the faulty batch, as they have started sparking, and probably are unsafe.

i've had the new mk4's for a month and this morning they bleeped like they usually do when ou turn them on but then they bleeped again and again and again!!!
apparently i can send them back and they just repost a new pair
how can a piece of machinery claiming its the top in the market brake so damn easily!

not happy

will Murray, January 2008
My salon styers broke same problem sparks coming from a hole in the cable, i had no idea what to do with them phoned GHD and all they were interested in was if i hadnt registered then theres nothing i can do apart from they will give me £10 for them and knock it off a new pair if i buy a new one from there. I was fuming i aint giving GHD any more of me money. Then found Pokerx7 on ebay listing replacement cables for a total cost of £22 i ordered mine 2 weeks ago it came next day, my boyfriend took the two screws out by the cable connection on the case and the cable connection just goes straight in no fuss no wiring it just goes straight in couldnt believe it and know me straighteners are like brand new. If i was u id get straight on there. With the fixing ones on ebay theres no chance that the guys your paying may be able to fix it or they could bodge it you leave feedback and then there broken again 2 weeks done the line.

rachel, December 2007
ive had my ghds for just over a year and now i cant even plug them in without big sparks coming from the plug. For £90 i am appauled that they will not even mend or exchange them for free as it has gone 12 month guaruntee period! what a waste of money!!

rachel, November 2007
I have just sent my third pair of faulty to GHD. Third time they have died a couple of weeks after the warranty has ran out!!Have tried my luck telling them they broke whilst i was on holiday-because i was 5 days over the warranty!!
Let's see what they have to say!!

aNWEN, September 2007
I have got to say I am more than a little dismayed with all your answers now that I am on my second pair of ghds,

My first pair believe it or not tripped the electric then actually set on fire at the base of the set, I rang ghd immediately and was given the faulty batch answer.

I sent mine back and recieved a brand new pair and some ghd products, I have had the new set for about 16 months and now these are tripping my electric I am wary as to what to do now, I dont want the same thing to happen as last time because it was quite scary to say the least.
So I have contacted ghd and am currently awaiting a reply lets hope its not a fob off that some of you have recieved, I willkeep you updated.

Marie, August 2007
I sent my Ghds off to a guy on ebay who charged 13 quid and offered a full refund if he couldn't repair them.

Unfortunately mine were among the few he couldn't fix (which meant i would have to send them to Ghd for a yet unknown repair cost) and I recieved my payment along with the straighteners back within a few days.

http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/ghd_man/

If that fails and yours' like mine, have gone to the big ghd heaven in the sky, don't fork out another 100 quid for a new pair. I got an excellent and equally good, if not better pair of straighteners off of ebay called "Salon Angels". They are brilliant and only £25 + £5 p+p.

Well worth it if you want to save money but get a set of quality straighteners. Also recieved them the day after they dispatched them to me.

Leah, July 2007
My ghd's broke a couple of days ago.
I switched them on, and they made a buzzing noise and the light was flickering now the light didn't come on.

I've only had them 18 months and the first 6 months they were not used much, and the guarantee is for 12 months. I think they should give me a replacement pair. To say they are the best is an understatement poor relibility and build quality.

how can i repair them ?

Jasmin, June 2007
I'm on my 3 rd pair of straighteners MK3 from GHD. Light keeps turning off and now they do not turn on. All 3 have had this same fault. GHD say your over using them. Rubbish. 10 mins a day i use them. they are in salons, used on clients hair for up to 2 hours a day. I'm sick of GHD and their pass the buck attitude. I've gone to Trading Standards now. I don't see why we should have to pay a penny after shelling out roughly £100 for just over a yr ( when warranty ends) i think this is money making scheme GHD hve done as they know when the irons work their great,After the warranty ends though alot of people will have no choice but to shell out again or go without and GHD know this. I fell for it myself altough twice they were swapped over salon counter and i was told it was a " faulty batch" these pair may be a faulty batch but honestly. I don't belive another 10 pairs of mk3 would last much longer than a year. Thats how they make their money. No good selling them and having them work fine else people would be happy with the product and not need to go back for another pair? Good luck. There comes a point though where you realise their fobbing you off and getting more money out of us when the go wrong (e,g) £10 postage to send them back or discount rate for a new pair. we shouldn't have to pay more money. they should last longer than a year.

Kelly, June 2007
My Ghd's started playing up yesterday. The light would come on then they would heat up really quickly, I could see the heat coming off of them. Then the light would go off and they'd cool down again.

Had an electrician round today so I asked him to have a look at them for me. He tested them with his contraption and said that it's the circuit that has broken.

Anyone know how to gt this sorted for little or nothing?

Leah, June 2007
hi a dd my striaghnters for 2 months i unplugged them put them in my mums room plugged them in they dont work the light dont come on and they dont heat i have tried the fuzz and they dont work
does anyone no anyone i can contact to get them fixed

My ghd's broke a couple of days ago.
I switched them on, and the light didn't come on and they were making a funny noise and not heating up.

:(

I've only had them 18 months, and the gaurentee is for 12 months.
so they won't give me a new pair will they?

Sarah, June 2007
ALL GHD USERS!!!!!! OVER THE LAST 2 YEARS I HAVE BEEN THROUGH 5 PAIRS THAT HAVE ALL BEEN FAULTY, MY FRIEND THEN RECOMMENDED ANOTHER GREAT SET OF STRAIGHTENERS THAT ARE JUST AS GOOD, IF NOT BETTER, PLUS THEY ARE A BARGAIN AT JUST £7.95 A PAIR. SOUNDS LIKE A JOKE BUT BELIEVE ME THEY ARE BETTER THAN GHD'S. SO WHAT ARE THESE WONDER STRAIGHTENERS? TESCO VALUE!!!! I KID YOU NOT! THEY FLY OFF THE SHELVES SO YOU HAVE TO BE THERE WHEN THEY GET A DELIVERY TO ENSURE YOU GET A PAIR!!!

casey, May 2007
I used to use ghd irons but they just kept breaking on me in the end I started looking for an alternative. A friend of mine bought this pair of irons that looked and worked identically to a ghd called 'ION' what is more you can get them in pink like the limited edition ghd did. So i did a search and found them on ebay and they were only about £45 so I made a big saving. I would recomend them to anybody who is sick of spending £100 on ghd's that can break so easily.

Jennifer, May 2007
i sent my ghd's 2 www.fixme.com last fridey i had them back 3 days later all fixed, it was the cable it cost £16.99 give it a try!!!!!

cath davies, wombourne, April 2007
I agree, you should send tem to Jamella. As they aren't very old, they will probably be able to repair them. If you go in to a hairdressers and tell them you've only had them 6 months, they will give you a pre paid bag to post them in.

Toni, April 2007
send them back to ghd, tell them a spark came off them and your worried now because you heard of this fault from the watchdog show and they will send you a new pair no questions asked. worked for me!

sally, April 2007
i bought my ghd origional styling iron in may 2005. they worked perfectley well for 10 months. one morning i was straightening my 17 year old sisters long hair with the ghd origional iron, and as i was using the power just automaticaly switched off!
my ghds are not in guarantee anymore as it has been 2 years since i bought them at hedjogs salons in ilford. i paid £99.50for them. ghds are excellent but they do not last long other than a year and thats it. the new ghd styler looks good in terms of design and features. i hope that the new ghd styler does not have any problems as with the old ghds.

Ravinder Ghatora, April 2007
I've had mine for 4 years. I sent them to Jamella and they have said they aren't repairable and it's not a manufacturing default but wear and tear. Due to the age of the irons, they have said all they can do is sell me an updated model for a significant saving - I need to ring up and find out what a significant saving' is.

Also if I want my old ones back I have to pay for the postage -outrageous!!

Good job I have been borrowing some from a friend in the mean time.

Toni, April 2007
well my ghd's were working fine untill today, the light keeps flicking on and off. The hairdressers say its due to ravelling the wire around them as this twists the cable.
im not sure if the gurantee covers it though? ive had them for nearly two years im not sure.

Lauren S, April 2007
cut the cable at the end then terminate in some termination block these tongs only generate a small amount of current about .14 amps then cover in electrical tape easy cheap fix.

S ODonnell, April 2007
btw the problem:

when turned on the light doesn't come on, but if you fiddle with the lead, the light flickers on and off. My father inlaw took the lead off, tested it and says all I need is a new mains lead.

Toni, March 2007
my concern is sending my ghd's to someone and not knowing if I'll get them back.

Should I send them back to GHD and pay the extra, and guarentee getting them back.

Toni, March 2007
Has anyone else had their straighteners fixed by Tony M? Considering sending mine to him for repair.

Toni, March 2007
My ghds have broken twice now one end of the cable broke first near the plug my dad fixed that by replacing the plug for a new one and then they worked but now the broke at the other end..i am so annoyed i cant live with out them..wot i suggest is buying a differnt pair of strighteners.. not ghds because they only last a year all of my friends have them nd most of then broke after a year.. i recomend h2ds..you can buy them off ebay for about £45 because there a new release and want to see if they sell well and they are very good or even treseme ones from argos for onli £15.. yer my sound cheap and nasty but there really good i no ghds are the best strighteners ever but they don't last forever i hope i helped

Katie Michelle, March 2007
i tried to use my ghd's this morning and they just didnt work at all but they were working perfect yesterday what should i do they might still have there waranty x

I have a problem where the LED switches on for a few minutes. When it starts flashing it switches off but when i hold the straightners tightly together the LED turns on again. If anyone could give me a number to contact GHD i would be really grateful because i depseratley need these fixing.

maz, January 2007
hi to fix this problem is really quite simple if you can get your hands on a original spare lead as it just plugs in a socket, but if not (like the 3 pairs ive repaired this week with no warranty) then if you know anyone who can use a soldering iron they can cut off the plug and solder the connections straight to the pcb inside.

Hi i send of my ghds back to the Jemella LTD, how long does it take for them to repair or replace them???

Pip, December 2006
Some GHD's are from a faulty batch, call 0845 3301133 and give your serial number and they will let you know if its one from the faulty batch or not. If it is from the faulty batch, they should send a replacement for it (waiting for mine). The faulty GHD's were featured on BBC's watchdog.

namal, November 2006
hi there i normally fix these problems for about £20 plus £5 delivery and within 5 days not 1 month like ghd i replace the old lead with my own new lead ..for more info contact me on mrfire@fsmail.net or msn me at deckdemon@hotmail.co.uk thanks tony

Hi there guys, Depending on the age of your GHD's they should be under warrenty, send the straighteners back with details of the fault and your address so they know where to post them back to! The address is GHD, PO Box 397 Keighley, West Yorks, BD20 0WX. Or call 0800 7812781. Hope this helps.

my local electrical shop Clarkes looked at my ghd straightners as i have a fault with them, i was told it was possibly the wire and if it was they were going to charge me £28.00 sterling to fix them which i was happy to pay, as it was they rang me today and its the circut board not the wire so they cannot repair them, i now have to contact ghd, just thought i would let u know as u may be able to ask at ur local electrical shop, its just an idea. good luck

lisa, March 2006
I take it that is 25 or 43 pounds sterling. I rang the GHD line as the cable in my ghd is broken, its like as it it has been cut.

They would not give me an idea of how much it would cost and said i would have to send it first and then they would tell me how much it would cost to fix it. Only thing is i am in Ireland so by the time i pay for post and packaging and then pay in sterling to get it fixed i would probably have a new one.

Also if i sent it over and then they told me the cost and i decided i didn't want it fixed would they keep it and fix it anyway and then sell it off i wonder..........

Seems like a lot of people are having the same problem with the cable, there must be someone out there other than GHD that can fix it ?

I just got a set of tongs back using that number - £43 to fit a new cable. Seemed a bit steep to me, but better than buying new ones I suppose
