How do I change the belt on a model with the clutch.

pls don't worry about changing the belt of your dc17 or animal series of products. call dyson customer service dept at 866-693 9766 asn ask for ms. danielle garling and she will guide your through. the most critical thing is you have to take off the cover and get the belt loop into the little hole where you can see the drive gear, and then set the loop around it. get the rooler inside the other side of the belt loop. make sure the flap side of the end setter is towards you. get the belt sit on the gear part and then slide it right back to the slot with end setters' flat sides towards you. then put the cover back. it's done. remember call dyson customer service and don't listen the non-sense of those guys putting the very negative comments about dyson products. have fun to do it yourself and it makes you feel good!!!

If you slide a tiny screwdriver down the slot at the top of the power switch you will be able to lever off the switch cover, underneath this is a small star screw, remove this and the whole switch assembly can be removed...hope this helps.

Luckily I have a set of star drives and found the whole process fairly simple until arriving at the job I started out to do. That was to repair the power cord that has broken where it enters the handle to the on/off switch. How to remove the switch housing is baffling me!
It's a DC04 model, lime/silver and if anyone can help I'd be much obliged!

... the site owner has photodocumented some of his DC04 escapades including clutch and motor changes. I wouldn't recommend this job for everyone - on a 'DIY engineer' difficulty scale of 1 to 10, in my view dismantling a Dyson to this level is about 6 and reassembly is a 8. How this was ever engineered for high volume manufacturing I will never know. You will also need star drives to dismantle the housing. Good luck
