Ford Transit engine immobiliser?

I have a 1997 Ford Transit LWB Motorhome with 2.5Tdi engine and have recently spent £356 at a Ford main dealer having had intermittant starting problems with the immobiliser supposedly solved. Now nearly two months later and with only twenty more miles on the clock the problem was still there when preparing to leave an MOT station. I am not keen to go back to the dealer and get 'ripped off' again.
Does anyone have any suggestions? This is an otherwise wonderfully well kept regularly serviced Ford Duetto with only
61,000 miles on the clock. My wife and I are new to motor caravanning and acquired the vehicle in May from the widow of a deceased friend.

If your Transit is automatic then it does have an immobiliser. We had this problem and an aouto electrician fitted a new immobiliser.
We have a problem starting our Transit in the cold. We question whether the Battery is the right sized unit. A new one hasn't helped. Use of a jump starter and it kicks into action straight away.

make sure you are using the right key, then check to see if power is going to starter motor,( small terminal).
if not the immobiliser is probably at fault, called the pats system. it easily be bypassed. the relay next to the pats system needs to be earthed, the a new wire from ignition swith to the back of injection pump, (protector needs removing). then bingo on your way.

i have found an advert on ebay listed as transit immobiliser bypass which covers 2.5d transit, this guy is the man on these apparantly, his feedback is spot on
his ebay i.d. is manandvan

honestly you hav to establish where the fault is put a multimeter across he battery try and start if the voltage dosent drop it means the starter isnt drawing power therefore fault with the imobiliser if tha is so hn trace the imobiliser to find the unit and then find pairs of wires coming out of the box and you will see the will be joined to a cut cable remove the pairs and join origional cable back together some imobilisers are done through he managment system which is near impossible to overcome alhough i hink on the model of transit it will be possible

Please ensure your two ignition keys are separated. I found with both keys on the same key ring that the immobiliser would act up. Something to do with the microship in each key if thats the case in your situation.

HI MrMPuk
the flash code is 1 flash then 4 flashes

FEARLESS, September 2008
WE SENT IT TO THE MAIN DEALERS BUT DISPITE GALANT EFFORTS THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAULT AND WERE UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE
I FINALLY GOT IT GOING AFTER 30 MINUTES
ITS DIFFICULT WITH IMMOBILIZERS AS IT IS DESIGNED TO STOP THIEVES SO ITS NOT EASY TO GET ANSWERS.

WE HAVE A SIMILAR FAULT R REG 2.5D

IMMOBILIZER LAMP SHOULD BE SOLID BUT IT FLASHES

WE GET IT GOING BY THE FOLLOWING METHODS

1. LEAVE ONE KEY ON IGNITION FOR 5 MINS
(IMMOBILIZER IS POWERED ON IGNITION ONLY)
THIS WE BELIEVE CHARGES MINI POWER SOURCE

2. TRY THE SECOND KEY FOR 5 MINS

3. TRY THE FIRST KEY REPEATEDLY FOR A FEW MINS

4. LEAVE IGNITION ON FOR 5 MINS

5.THREATEN IT WITH THE SCRAP YARD

IT USUALLY GOES BY THEN......

IF WE KEEP IT STARTING EACH DAY ITS OK
IF WE LEAVE IT A DAY IT TAKES A FEW MINUITES
IF WE LEAVE IT A WEEK THEN IT CAN TAKE UP TO 2HRS TO GET IT TO FIRE UP

ALTHOUGH THE ALTERNATOR IS CHARGING OK I HAVE A SUSPISSION THERE IS A LINK TO THE FAULT

I'm guessing the vehicle fails to start, when it does this what is the immobiliser light doing?

The immobiliser light will flash for a bit and then display a fault code. eg. flash..flash.............flash..flash..flash.. would be a code of 23.
