How can i repair my canon 1600IR ..with E100 system erroe?

Canon 1600 E100 Error
John thee, September 2007
E100 means that the laser is not being detected. On this machine the is a safety shutter for the laser that is activated by a plastic peg on the drum unit. this is to prevent the laser beam being exposed when the drum is removed. If you open the left doors and operate the lever under the front cover you can pull out the drum from the left side. The plastic peg has probably broken off. As you pull out the drum from the left it should be on the left (rear of machine) end of the drum unit pointing into the machine. it is only about a quarter of an inch long. If not there you should see where it has broken off.
