How can I clean the pump filter of Whirlpool washer?

I have a 5-year old Whirlpool washing machine, I believe Model LSQ9560PW, or if not, exactly like that one. I washed a "velour" type blanket and the blanket totally disintegrated into tiny fuzz balls. No blanket remained. Now, at the end of the cycle, even though the water has drained out the washer, the clothes are sopping wet. I've been told there is a pump filter and maybe that is the problem. Do you think it is, and if so, what does it look like and how do I get to it to clean it? Thanks so much.

Open the square lid at the bottom right of the machine. It opens downwards. You will see the pump filter. Unscrew the filter and clean. Keep a towel handy on the floor, as some water will flow out.
