Peugeot 306 1999 rear doors remain locked?

The two rear door locks on my 306 remain locked no matter whether I unlock manually or using the remote. The locking buttons can be lifted up normally but when I operate the inside or outside door handle it still remains locked. Any ideas? I expect I will have to replace the locks but how can I open the door?

It's very unusual for both rear door locks to fail simultaneously. I suspect an electrical fault in the wiring to the rear doors rather than a mechanical fault in both locks at the same time. Getting the doors open will require removing the rear seat base cushion if possible to allow more room for access. The interior door trim will have to be carefully removed. Then peel back the plastic waterproofing liner. The door locking mechanism should then be carefully studied to find a way of operating the lock catches with a screwdriver etc.
