remove and refit concrete weight in indesit washing machine?

Hi
i want to make my washing machine lighter to carry up a difficult spiral staircase. somebody suggested i should remove the concrete weight inside the machine and that would make it lighter and then refit it once upstairs. is this sound advice? i have never done it before and am an average DIYer. is there any other way to make it lighter? appreciate any advice

sorted
that was the only way we could do it
had to press drum down to get concrete off

thanks for your reply Rich
did try my best to get some muscle power but unfortunately because i have never lived here (Leeds) don't know anybody who would do it for a quick bob.
seems like i'll have to have a go at the weight removal idea - but which is the best way to tilt the machine once i am ready to carry it up?

Your friends probably right, the weights are usually just bolted on,you may have to remove the lid but its easy enough,or just get a couple of big strong lads to help you.
