my speedo on my renault clio 1.2 RT (1999) does not work how could i fix this problem if not how much would it cost in a garage roughly as i do not want to get ripped off. Thankyou.

I had the same issue on my car.
Tis an simple fix,
New instrument pannel from brakers / ebay max £30.
new speedo cable from local motor factors about £25
undo 5 dash bolts and remove top dash,
2 top bolt which hold pannel in place and pul towards you, (this snaps off the bottom 2 tabs which are a pain the ass to get to otherwise).

remove and replace.

follow steps backwards and all should be good.

speedo cable goes out of passanger footwell and into top of gearbox.

should take about 1 hour and save you ££££.

hi, you say that it doesnt work could you elaborate slightly? Does the dial move at all whilst the car is moving? If not then it would probably mean that the speedometer cable at the back has come off, or it is gettin caught on something to stop it from moving. If this is the case then it shouldnt cost more than an hours labour to fix (about £30-80).
However, it could be more serious and could mean that you have to have a new instrument panel which would incur more cost probably around the £100 - £200 mark. If this is the case I would recommend that you go to a scrapyard and buy a new instrument panel for about £20 an fit it yourself. If you dont know how to do it then buy a haynes manual and follow that.
