my pc's usb port works just fine with any usb device except pendrives. pendrives that work fine on other pcs r not even recognised by my pc.

you can also go into device manager and look at all the usb listings ... any with a yellow icon against them right click propeties and then click repair.

You don't say what your OS is but it is in not at least WinXP then you need to install drivers for the pendrive. It will have come with them on a CD or a download.
