Do you sharpen the blades on Hedge trimmers or just replace them?

Can you sharpen the blades on hedge trimmers? I have a Craftsman trimmer and it is now tearing the bushes instead of doing a clean cut.

Sounds like your blades are too far apart. Even blunt blades will cut (with effort) if they are set the correct distance apart. Sharpen with a few strokes of a flat file to the original angle, then adjust blade gap (if possible - some machines apparently cannot be adjusted). Too tight and they won't move. Too loose and they rattle and chew. Oil well with chainsaw oil.
