KitchenAid Superba washing machine won't spin?

KitchenAid Superba Model #KAWS850GQ1

The load washes and drains but when the spin cycle starts it does not spin, it just makes a loud clicking sound - like a baseball card in the spokes of a bicycle. If anyone has any ideas on what heck is wrong with this washer that would be great.

Thanks in advance

mine won't drain or spin...this happen once before and low and behold it statred working properly within 20 minutes...Not this time...if it is going to cost more than $50 to repair, I could just buy a rebuilt washer... please advise

The following link tells you exactly how to repair the motor coupling: http://fixitnow.com/2004/05/appliance-tip-of-day-replacing-drive.htm

Mine is nearly nine years old and I have had this problem twice... both times it was for the same reason. I have taken it in to my local repair shop both times and the repair was pretty inexpensive... How it was explained to me is that the machine is shaft driven and the coupling from the shaft to the tub/agitator wears out (I constantly wash large loads, blankets, etc.) The replacement part is cheap, but I get charged for an hours labor when they fix it. It comes to less than $100 altogether for the repair.

Just happened to me too. If you turn the washer on it's side and take off the bottom covering you'll see that between the motor and the gear box that drives the drum, there is a plastic part. Mine was broken so that the hex shaft from the motor couldn't get a grip and turn the piece. I'm about to look for a part. That's how I found this question. Hope this helps.
