How can i set the ignition timing of a McCULLOCH MT270X?

I would like to set the trimmers timing

The manual states 0.012" but, mine won't produce a spark at this gap. I reduced the clearance to 3>4 thou and it works fine. As you cannot alter the timing angle the coil/flywheel clearance will have a little effect on the timing. the smaller the clearance the more advanced the spark but, based upon my experience this is not critical.

I changed my ignition coil a couple of years back and because the coil design has been changed from the original, the supplier gave me a copy of a McCulloch service bulletin no. 81 dated 07-99. That indicates a gap between the flywheel and the coil of 0.3 mm, the relationship of the coil to the magnets in the flywheel being radially fixed by the fixing screws for the coil.
