backfire?

I have a Briggs and Stratton classic 35
When pulling on the start cord it back fires through the carb
any ideas please

you have hit something and sheared the flywheel key. the ignition timing is out. fit a new briggs (aluminium) key and it will go again.

try checking that the flywheel key on the crankshaft is not sheared
also it could be the inlet valve is stuck open
if it is a rotary lawnmower make sure that the blade is tight
