I need to know what 40 to 1 ratio means in ounces per gallons?

I have a Weedeater Featherweight trimmer (manual was misplaced) that says 40/1 ratio. Does that mean 40 ounces of gas to 1 ounce of oil? I am using the Poulan?weedeater brand 2-cycle oil.

40...1 means 40 parts petrol and 1 part two stroke oil whatever quantity you wish .ie 40 gallon ...1gallon and so on till you get what you want.
