renault laguna 1998 rt sport automatic?

When the temp. gauge reaches halfway the first gear fails to engage when stopping but slips in with a thump seconds later, this does not happen when the temp. gauge is below the halfway mark. In all other gears the car runs perfectly, mileage 52570.

Hi

I have had all kinds of trouble with my auto box. My box used to clunk when braking at lights, the bands then went. I have had it rebuilt but the solenoids on these boxes are apparently dodgy and have to be replaced. As far as your clunk, I believe that this is the box running a high line pressure. My advice would be to get a diagnostic done on the transmission.

I think at that oil chancing not fix that problem.I have been same problem earlier. We try that, but it not help.
At last we must chance the gearbox. There was something seal failure in gearbox, and it's repair cost same as overhauled gearbox.
My laguna is 1998 2.0 rt break automatic

An automatic Renault... only for the brave! Are you saying the problem only occurs after the car has warmed up? It could be dirty transmission oil, have you checked it's condition? Changing the gearbox oil (and filter, if it has one) would be my first move.
