It was totally dead when I got to it and started turning over for a few seconds with jump leads and went dead again.

its possibly 1 of the sensors inside the distributer. if u get a haynes manual it should give u the resistances and voltages 4 u 2 check the sensors. u will need a multimeter and u will need 2 charge the battery. it also could b the coil. check 4 spark by removing spark plug, plugging into ht lead and earthing it on engine while sum1 tries 2 start car, if no spark, it'll b 1 of above faults.
