I have a '99 1.8LS and have found that by first removing the front grill (3 screws) then unclip the indicator unit (pre "facelift" units) you get relatively good access to all four lamp retaining screws without having to drop the bumper. The headlamp will "jiggle out" (technical term!) with care and patience. The unit seems to go back in easier then it comes out but take care with the bottom screw at the bumper, I found it easier to aim the hole by twisting my arm around and turning the screw in to start with finger tips, the rest is just reverse operation of removal. You will need an 8mm spanner for the screws.
