Big End Bearings gone in my fiesta?

As soon as they went I stopped driving the car. I have a 1998 R Reg Ford Fiesta. I am going to fix it up myself and I need to drive it around 90miles carefully. If I top it up with oil, over fill it could I make it down?? Can anyone give me the best advice Ive tried to get it fixed with a garage but no-one will do the work without replacing the engine. The parts are costing me around £50, hence doing it myself. Should I tow it?? will it be ok to wheel behind another car??

you dont need any speacial tools just drop the sump and do it from underneath its hard but will work.

Remember standard AA cover doesn't cover you for transport to wherever you want, usually it's to the nearest garage.

I too think you're wasting your time trying to repair it. The crank is probably scrap if the big ends are gone, and there's doubtless serious wear in other areas. A replacement engine from a scrapyard would be my quick fix.

Find a willing member of the AA to sit with you, report a break down and have them get the car back to where you need to be. 90 miles being towed is going to be a real pain.

Please bear in mind that although the parts may only cost you £50, all the specialist tools will set you back even more. Sometimes it is best to leave it to the professionals.
