Renault Laguna 1.9 DCI Privelige 2001 registered?

H E L P !!!
The air flow meter consists if two thin strip sensors and also has an air temp sensor next to it.
A while ago, the car started to gently surge at about 2000rpm. Not enough to worry about but enough to notice. I took off the air box, changed filters, cleaned all contacts and checked all seals etc. and in the process managed to break one of the two strip sensors in the air flow meter box. the only thing was that it stopped the surging and restored the mpg BUT !! acceleration was reduced power by about 20%. Upper end was still respectable and there didnt seen to be any other problems. Today I replaced the air flow meter (£200.00 ouch ) but whilst performance is back and brilliant, it has started immediately surging and smoking !!! turbo seems to wind up ok. Any Ideas !! a.s.wright@lycosmax.co.uk.
