how can i fix the wiring on my riding lawn mower?

I have a 10 hp riding lawn mower that was given to me with a briggs and straton engine (not original) and i need to redo the wiring to the starter. what wires are hot and what are ground?

There are no ground wires to the starter. Your starter is automatically grounded when it is bolted tightly to your engine. The hot wire comes from the silinoid. If you follow the hot wire from the battery, it will connect to a small device with two screw post on it. Leave the hot wire from the battery connected where it is... Then connect the wire (that is on the other screw post of the silinoid) to the starter screw post. YOU ARE DONE....
