How do I fix timing?

I have a White model 644 from my grandmother and the needle doesn't seem to be able to catch the bobbin thrread at all. I think it's threaded correctly.
How do I tell if the timing is off and if so how do I adjust it?
thank you

Hello Jessica,
You will know if the timing is out when you have made sure you have threaded the machine correctly and making sure the presser foot is up when you thread it, so the thread goes inbetween the discs properly, making sure you have a new needle inserted the correct way round, the needle only has to be slightly bent and it will not pick up the thread, making sure you have the bobbin in the correct way round and making sure you have the tensions set properly, if all this is done then the machine should sew perfectly without missing stitches, if it does then the machine needs retiming unless you are sewing on a fabric that produces static in which case you will need an ani-static needle, try all the above first and if you are getting a problem just e-mail me drivewithken@blueyonder.co.uk and I will tell you how to retime the machine but you will need a bit of patience.
