How can I recover data that was stored on my Lexar 256MB jump drive?

I tried plugging my Lexar 256MB drive into the USB ports of several computers and the indicator light never comes on. The jump drive itself smells burnt; there may have been a power surge. The part that really sucks about this is my brother has been writing a book for several years and it was solely stored on this jump drive! If anyone knows if there's a way to recover this data, I'd really appreciate your advice.

Thanks,
Lauren

Apologies this is not an answer but a plee to ask if you have had any joy in contacting anyone that has been able to repair or retrieve the data from your pen drive.

I have one with exactly the same symptoms which holds vital data and I am desperate to retrieve it.

Please email me on wezzleekolleeuh(AT)googlemail(DOT)com if you have any information.

Thanks
