When driving my car round a corner the steering used to automatically spring back into a straight forward motion, now when turning a bend it feels much stiffer and jerks back round, any idea whats wrong?

Chris ...sounds to me like your driving style is a little wrong as the steering shouldn't automatically return to the central position unless you release your hands from the wheel. What you need to check first are the pressures and condition of the tyres, tracking and suspension. Does the vehicle have power assisted steering? Have you checked the fluid level to the power steering resevoir if it has?
