That all depends on how the car was treated by its previous owners. If it was serviced regularly and driven well you will probably have nothing to worry about. On the other hand, if it belonged to a boy racer who screamed round corners and thought he was the best driver on the planet while everyone else thinks he's a pratt (kind words there) then you'd be better off looking elsewhere.
For a reasonable charge, the AA or RAC will check the car for you. You don't have to be a member. This is usually money well spent.
