How do I mend a down comforter?

I have an expensive queen-size down comforter with about a 4-foot rip down the middle of it. The rip is not jagged, but a single 4-foot long rip.

I had a similar problem and mended mine with a thin iron on Velcro patch as sewing alone still allows the down to escape.
