HOW DO I ADJUST a peugeot 306 handbarke cable?

my sons handbrake in his peugeot 306 is coming up very high i think it needs to be adjusted

you need to take the handbrake cover off. if its the original cover is takes a lot of twisting and pulling. one off you need to take out the centre console. one screw is in the storage box near the dash. 2 screws are under the gearstick gaiter and 2 screws are under the rear ashtray. lift the console off and take the handbrake off (with foot on brake). the adjuster nut is on the back off the hanbrake lever (i think its 13mm). this needs to be turned clockwise untill you have between 3 and 7 clicks on the handle. once adjusted drive the car and make sure the brakes arnt binding as youre driving otherwise the handbrake has been adjusted too much. the best way of checking is jacking the back wheels up, take the handbrake off and making sure the wheels spin freely. slight resistence from the brakes is ok.
