Homelite chain saw has no spark???

My homelite ranger, powerstroke 33cc chainsaw that is just over a year old, wont start. i am comfortable working on small engines but only to a certain degree. i know that i am getting fuel, plus i just went through the carb even though i probably didnt need to. finally i took out the spark plug and put the cap back on it and i get no spark. any suggestions?
thanks,
josh
