Briggs engine cranks, but won't start?

I have a 14.5 horse electric start briggs & stratton engine on my mower. Cranks, but won't start. If I pour a little gas in the carb, it starts and runs for a second. If I don't pour in the gas, won't start at all - just cranks. Fuel line isn't clogged - I checked it. Is my fuel pump bad?

Fuel pump MAY be bad. More likely water in the float bowl. Remove and clean it. If it has fuel in it, pump is probably OK. If it's dry, pump bad.

I have tried New spark plug . reset carb settings But no spark at all. If I could get a spark I could start it. It has been standing idle for about 6 months
