how can i fix my gear box on a citroen xsara vtr 1999 1.6, manual 5 speed?

How do I replace my gear box? The gear box grates when I am in Neutral, 1st and 2nd gear. 3rd, 4th and 5th gear are fine. If I do not replace it, how long can I drive it like this. Will every gear eventually grate? What will be the outcome?

One of your primary shaft bearings are worn. You can still drive it but it will just get noiser, if it gets too bad the bearing may collapse totaly.
