There will be a plastic tube going up to a water level pressure switch. If that tube becomes partially blocked or has any small leaks it will not sense the water level correctly and can overfill or even flood. Take the tube off at the switch end and blow down it and if done easily disconnect the other end at the bottom of the washing machine and clean that out. It usually has a pipe size reducer that looks like a bottle. Check for cracks and leaks in the pipe.
