how to time mk4 d escort?

how have a mk4 d escort i recently changed all the gaskets ive put the head back on and followed everythin in the manuel but as soon as i put the cam belt on and try to turn the engine it locks up. does anyone have any ideas how to solve this problem

you will have to turn crankshaft (manually) slowly as well as trying to turn camshaft to get your marks in line, you may need to turn it back to enable camshaft to turn.
