my car wont go into gear when the engine is running but will when the engine is off.

You need to adjust the clutch up a bit so it clears gears. Take the air filter out or better still look up from underneath to the clutch cable on top of the gearbox, then undo the 10 mm pinch bolt then tighten the 13mm nut it was holding but dont do it too much, you should have some free play in the cable or the clutch will slip.
