Is there anyway of resetting the ECU on my '95 Ford Escort without the use of specialist diagnostic equipment? I have heard of people disconnecting the battery to do this but does it actually work?

Hi Wayne, the diagnostics on your car depends on the engine size if its a 1.3/1.4 it gives out flash codes that you can read with an LED and the amount of flashes equates to a fault and the only way to clear the fault is to disconnect the battery or pull out the fuse this will then clear the fault memory but if you have'nt fixed the fault your back to square one!! If its the 1.6/1.8 16v then you need a specialist code reader and you can only reset the computer with it.
