on the 1.9cdti 150 its easier to remove from the top, remove air box, then jack up the car, remove the plastic gaurd from underneath. put an axle stand or a jack under the engine to support it as the next step is to remove the engine mount next to the air box. then pull back the tensioner with a 15mm spanner, i used another spanner connected to it to get some leverage as its quite hard to move, when you have that pulled back towards you slip off the belt around the alternator pulley an slowly let the tensioner back. then you have three bolts to remove the alternator completely. i found the one low down on the pulley side the hardest to remove as very little space. the other two on the other side are not hard to remove at all an they are a size 14mm if i remember correctly? then remove the wires connected to the alternator. finally, wiggle it around an eventually you will get it out the top :) reverse order to refit one

I know its a late post but it mite help others...Did mine today 05 vecra 1.9cdti sri..took air box out to get at tensioner 15mm spanner turn clockwise its tight but ok...slide belt off and leave belt on other pullys. now slowly turn the spanner the other way till spanner rests on car body and leave on...now for bolts on alternator you will need torque sockets..there is a plug on a plate with two small torque bolts take plug out and undo the bolts then take off the plate this way you can get at the bolts on the alternator vey easy undo bottom left first near the alternator pully then the two near the plate you have taken off...alternator is now off...turn it upside down and take off the two cables shoud be 8mm bolt and 15mm bolt..now rest it on steering rack...now on to the fuel pipes that are in your way just pull them out of there holders and pull towards you....now take your alternator in both hands and turn it on its side with the pully to your left if your facing the car and pull out its tight but it will come out.....to replace just do the opposite......they can be repaired mine cost £65 and took me 1hour and 45mins to do and im not a mechanic...vauxhall would have charged me £480 to replace and labour so its well worth doing yourself even if you have to buy some tools

how to change an alternator on a vauxhall signum 1.9cdti

vauxhall, February 2010
Some are a pain, best bet is remove from the top of the engine bay, not underneath, remove air filter box and engine mount (looks like a dumbell) abit of patience and it'll come out ok, did mine a year ago and it look like it's just gone again. Good luck.
