How do I adjust my handbrake on 1999 'T' Redg escort van?

I have just replaced the rear brake shoes on my van and the handbrake, which was perfect before, has now gone really slack and even by pulling it to the max it only gives minimum brakeage. Can I adjust them and if so how?

Providing everything is fitted ok then the adjuster is either on the side of the handbrake lever inside the van or two plastic locknuts on the cable underneath the van. Whichever way, tighten these till you get your handbrake to about 5 clicks. Then make sure the rear brakes are not binding.
