Temp Gauge keeps hitting Red!!!?

I have a W reg (2000) Fiat Punto.....My temperature gauge keeps hitting red and I have no heating, just cold air.... I had a leak in radiator, thats been replaced and recently had new thermostat fitted.... could it be something blocking the water pump (i.e. radweld put in old radiator to contain leak temporarily)..... is it that the system needs flushed out???? Any ideas anybody

Hi jackie, our 1997 model was losing water despite a new rad
we have since had a blown headgasket, the cylinder head
required a "skim" (£52) at local engineering w/shop.
new head gasket & about 4 hours messing about with spanners.
your problem may be this or perhaps you have an air lock
to clear this, there is a removable plug on the top of the rad (oposite the top hose) which needs to be removed & screwed back when water is flowing out, also there is another bleed screw on the waterhose under the petrol injection unit which needs to be unscrewed & tighten when the water is flowing out.. try the airlock method first.. rob 01206 231793

may need bleeding, could also need pressure testing to determine if any leaks or head gasket gone, also check water pump for leaks when engine is running, also check return pipe to header tank, sometimes block up where hose fits on.
