How can I fix an electrical fault in a Ford Mondeo 1999 1753TD?

Yesterday while driving, ABS light and Airbag light illuminated, Speedo "needle" dropped to "0" mph, indicator "direction" lights not functioning (indicators working ok)
Vehicle otherwise functioning.
Returned home and parked the car.

Today attempted to start car. Dash display ok. Starter motor would not engage- strange whirring noise, intermittent movement of wiper blades movement of wiper blades and driver door lock. HELP!!!!

It sounds like your dash gauge circuit has lost its ignition supply , but what you say about the starter motor and wipers I would say your alternator has a fault and the dash is not recieving its warning lamp circuit which probably supplies some of the dash circuits
