how do i fix my 1.3 mk3 fiesta 1992 temperature gauge needle?

my mk3 fiesta temperature gauge needle keeps jumping up and down the temperature gauge reading and sometimes sits at the bottom and doesnt move at all. How can i fix this?

1st Check the elec connections, 2nd the thermostat 3rd the car is a 15yr old fiesta! it's gonna have some problems, also check you have enough coolant
